meet Dr. Zina Alkafaji

Pediatric Dentist

As a mother and a healthcare provider, Dr. Zina understands that children require extra care, time, and attention during a dental visit, as well as a comfortable, child-centered setting. At Lolo Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Zina has created the perfect environment for meeting these needs. As a parent of young children, she knows how difficult it can be to instill good eating and brushing habits in the home, and has lots of ideas for parents on how to ensure healthy smiles for their own families. She is a strong believer in prevention rather than intervention, and chooses to take a conservative approach whenever possible.

After graduating from the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois- Chicago, she practiced general dentistry for two years before pursuing her true passion- dentistry for children. Dr. Zina realized that the magic of children kept her enchanted and challenged everyday at work. She wanted to become an expert in children and their little teeth so she spent 3 extra years studying at the University of British Columbia in order to become a certified specialist in pediatric dentistry. During this time she also received a Masters in Craniofacial Science by completing research in pediatric sedation.

meet Dr. Shannon Munsie

Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Shannon Munsie is from Vancouver and is happy to be back to contribute to the community where she grew up. Before coming to Lolo, Dr. Shannon lived in Ottawa and was a staff pediatric dentist at CHEO (the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario).

It was no surprise to those who know her that when she became a dentist, she specialized in pediatric dentistry. She loves to help children and their families learn to master the dental experience. She did her training at UBC (BSc and Masters), Western (DDS), SickKids Hospital Toronto (hospital residency), and the University of Washington for her Masters degree and specialty certificate in pediatric dentistry. She is experienced working with children who are medically complex, with cleft lip and palate and autism spectrum disorder. She has also lectured on these topics to help other dentists in providing quality care and education to their pediatric patients and families.

She has a gentle approach with her patients and believes that going to the dentist should be a positive experience for children and their grown-ups.

noah the narwhal says

change your child’s toothbrush frequently!

  • Worn out brushes can wear away at enamel, cause plaque buildup and will not clean the teeth properly, leading to cavities.
  • Bacteria builds up in the bristles so changing their toothbrush every 3 months promotes good oral health.
  • If your child is exposed to sickness, it is recommended to change their toothbrush so they don’t get re-exposed to the bacteria.
